We had many pets when I was with my parents. But my very own first pets were my cats Ming and Han. I was still in college, and lived alone during the summers there, and decided near the end of my college education to get cats. I don't know how I found them (in the paper, I suppose?) Anyway I actually forget how I got Ming. She was a longer haired gray tabby. She was little but ready to be adopted. Later I found Han. Someone brought her over to me. She was all black and VERY tiny! I don't think she was mature enough to leave her mom yet. Ming was still a baby and was trying to play with Han like a toy. So I had to keep them separated for awhile until Han got a bit older and bigger.

I loved those cats. At one point in college I couldn't keep them with me and my friend who HATES cats and has a dog, took them in for me. (Good friend, eh? Yes I still keep in touch with him.) When I left college and went home to Ohio for several months to concentrate on looking for a job, the cats went home with me. My parents didn't want them in the house, so we had to keep them in the storage shed. However, that summmer the cats went into heat. They BANGED and banged their bodies against the door to get out, mewling and meowling. One night we went downstairs and found them both gone. They had somehow managed to get out. The door was still locked. I think they squeezed their poor little bodies out the door. It was a flexible old wooden storage shed door held closed by a hook and eye latch. Anyway I was worried about them. But soon they were home, hanging around in the yard. Next thing you know, Ming's belly was getting bigger! She was pregnant with kittens. Soon Ming had her kittens - 3 little baby gray ones just like her. Very sweet and cute. Han tried to take one by the neck and drag it away and I got really upset! I thought she was jealous and wanted to kill it. But then I realized she was acting motherly toward it. She wanted one of those kitties for herself. :D The very next day, skinny Han gave birth to one little short haired black and white baby kitten. No wonder she was all motherly! Very cute. We gave all the kittens away, and I moved down here to Va. and brought Ming and Han with me.

They lived here with me in a variety of places until we got our house and I had kids. At that point I was working with young kids and a house and couldn't take care of everything properly. So unfortunately I gave Ming and Han away. I was really sad, but my kids were most important, and I couldn't take care of Ming and Han and give them the attention and love and space they needed.

I hope they got it from their new owners. I checked on them once and the owners said all was well. I doubt they're alive today. If they were they'd be 20 years old.

My first pets were 7 Zebra Finch birds. I got them from this garden and pet place in the middle of a field about 15 minutes from my home when I was about 3. They soon multiplied and the last Zebra Finch died only 6 months ago. So they lasted (breeding as well of course) 14 years. They also lived much longer than pedicted. I was told they'd live for 2 years max, and the last one lived for 7 years! My baby, Pongo. He was so cute!

My mom had a dog named Cinco when I was born. She was a mutt that Mom adopted from the humane society and only paid $5 for. (Hence the name)
